A One-Sentence Post on...A year without Ted

It's been a full year since Ted Rogers passed, and while we were never sure what his day-to-day interest in the franchise was, we're pretty sure that he wouldn't have tolerated much of the dithering vacillating shitshow that the front office has put on display over the past 12 months.

Bonus link: Street dedicated to late media mogul Ted Rogers (CTV.ca)

Handsome Tony Viner is doing a stand up job, and I believe in his plan, but I miss you, Ted.

Yeah, I tend to agree -- although, it's not like a knew the man.

Ted woulda called all the principals into his office and said

"Now lissen' up, jackasses. Here's $125M for payroll, go and make us competitive, then extend that Halladay fella that the fans love so much - for whatever it takes. Now get the fuck outta here."

...at least that's how I think it would have played out.

Ted Rogers and Harold Ballard are having a wienie roast right now, without need of a grill.

A few days ago, Matt Stairs had a street named after him in New Brunswick. Earlier today, a portion of Jarvis Street in TO was renamed "Ted Rogers Way" too.

I heard a rumour that they are debating changing the name of the 401 to one of either:

Reed Johnson Way

or

John McDonald Parkway

Crap!

I totally forgot about the Matt Stairs ceremony in Fredericton. The street is near the ballpark in Fredericton where Stairs played senior league ball. Sounded like Stairsy appreciated the gesture, and he threatened to move back to Fredericton someday.

Should have done a post on this...

Same here Tao ... I guess we dropped the ball on that one. Oh - and we also need to buy some "Use Stairs in Case of Emergency" shirts, too.

Say what you want about Uncle Ted, he believed. The Rogers progeny however...they only care about the filthy lucre. And Eyebleaf mentioned a plan? You mean the same plan that said that the Jays would compete in 2010 or the so-called building plan(which is really a rebuilding plan contrary to AA's propaganda)? The Rogers people would much rather see a sizeable profit from the team than full seats and a winner now no matter what bullshit they are shoveling in our faces!

The Jays will compete in 2010. Handsome Tony Viner said so. And I don't know why, but his shtick just doesn't get old. I'm in need of some faith right now. This winter will be a cold, lonely one. I hope Halladay gets traded, I hope he's happy, but I also hope we beat the piss out of him when we face him.

Heyman reports that a Red Sox - Yankees battle for Doc is brewing. He said we've told the Yankees that we're interested in Hughes/Joba/Montero/Jackson.

I think he made it all up, though it's certainly plausible.

Tao of Stieb said...

You know what is absolute proof that there's something askew in the Rogers offices?

The fact that I laid out this bit of Handsome Tony Viner bait, and he has yet to respond.

Damn you Handsome Tony Viner! Damn you and your handsomeness!

eyebleaf said...

He's just biding his time, Tao, like with the Halladay trade.

Here's Heyman: "[Halladay] is said to have been bitterly disappointed to have waited through last year's talks only to stay put. That's why he doesn't want talks to drag into this spring or season. He and the Jays have made such a great team to this point, and he doesn't want anything spoiling that."

Trade him. Now. I'm sick of this shit.

Tony Viner said...

Actually, my young friends, 'askew' is an incorrect term to use when describing the state of my office.

A more correct way to describe the current scenario is through my steadfast dedication to the desideratum that myself and my coterie are preparing for the coming weeks.

Look, we have a monumental task at hand, considering our divisional situation, and in order for me to stay sexy on the field of battle that is modern MLB negotiation, I would appreciate some support from the more handsome commentators in town, including your Tao.

Some have questioned my handsomeness in the recent past, and have attempted to controvert and impugn myself and my business strategies. I learned from the best, including my dear Ted (who was like a father to me, and never hesitated to comment on my handsome qualities)and I have committed to bringing back the glory of the Jays' dynasty years.

Negotiations have begun for the services of that viceroy of a talent Doc, who has agreed to allow me to utilize unconventional tactics in order to bamboozle my opponents into giving up their best players. My knavery is indeed what makes me so attractive, but it is my oppugner's front office that will be askew in the end. Trust me.

Sincerely,

Handsome Tony Viner

Amazing. Handsomely amazing.

It was awhile ago when I saw it, but there is apparently something you can download and burn to a disk and it will delete just about everything from your computer to make reformatting easier. Anybody know what the website is? There are missing, necessary files on our desktop or there may have been a virus and now its all screwy. I just got a laptop so was able to transfer all the stuff I needed from the desktop to the laptop, so it'd be better just to reformat since I already have everything backed up here so to speak.
